Trent Share Price: Q2 Revenue Rises 23%, Buy or Hold?

Trent Share Price: Stock Hits 10% Upper Circuit After Q2 Revenue Rises 23% to ₹5,788 Crore — Buy, Sell or Hold?
Trent share price jumped sharply on October 6 after the Tata Group retail company reported a strong provisional business update for the September quarter. The company’s standalone revenue from operations rose 23% year-on-year to ₹5,788 crore in Q2 FY27, compared with ₹4,724 crore a year earlier.
Trent shares opened at around ₹2,800 on Tuesday and subsequently touched the upper price band of ₹2,832.50. The stock’s sharp move came after the company’s Q2 update also highlighted the opening of its 1,000th Zudio store and continued expansion across its Westside and Zudio formats.
The strong revenue number has prompted several brokerages to reassess their views on the stock. However, the company’s Q2 update is primarily an operating update and does not contain the complete audited quarterly profit statement. That distinction is important when considering whether the stock is a buy, sell or hold.
What Happened to Trent Share Price?
Trent shares rose to the upper circuit on October 6 following the release of the company’s September-quarter business update. The stock had closed at ₹2,575 on October 5 and opened significantly higher the following morning.
NDTV Profit reported that the shares initially opened more than 8.5% higher at ₹2,800 before reaching the upper circuit. Reuters later reported that the stock gained nearly 11% during the session, marking one of its strongest daily performances in recent years.
The immediate market reaction was driven primarily by the revenue growth and operational milestones rather than by a reported quarterly net profit number.
Trent Q2 FY27 Revenue Rises 23%
Trent reported standalone revenue from operations, excluding GST, of ₹5,788 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2026. That represents a 23% increase from ₹4,724 crore in Q2 FY26.
Revenue from merchandise sales, excluding other operating income, also increased 23% during the quarter.
For the first half of FY27, standalone revenue from operations increased 21% to ₹11,454 crore, compared with ₹9,505 crore during the corresponding period a year earlier. Merchandise sales also increased 21% during the first six months.
| Metric | Q2 FY27 | YoY Change |
|---|---|---|
| Standalone revenue from operations | ₹5,788 crore | +23% |
| H1 FY27 revenue | ₹11,454 crore | +21% |
| Q2 FY26 revenue | ₹4,724 crore | — |
| H1 FY26 revenue | ₹9,505 crore | — |
Zudio Crosses the 1,000-Store Milestone
One of the most important operational developments was the opening of Trent’s 1,000th Zudio store during the September quarter.
Trent added 17 Zudio stores on a net basis during Q2 FY27. For the first half of the financial year, the company added 36 Zudio stores. As of September 30, its overall portfolio across Westside, Zudio and other lifestyle businesses stood at 1,342 stores.
Trent also added 10 Westside stores during the quarter, taking its net Westside additions for the first half to 11.
The expansion is important because a substantial part of Trent’s growth strategy has involved increasing its retail footprint. At the same time, investors need to watch whether additional stores translate into sustainable same-store sales and improving productivity.
Why Did the Market React Positively?
The 23% revenue growth came in ahead of some analyst expectations. Business Standard reported that Trent’s Q2 revenue growth was above Motilal Oswal Financial Services’ estimate of 18%.
Goldman Sachs also said revenue growth exceeded its expectations and highlighted an improvement in sales productivity compared with the previous quarter. Reuters reported that sales per store declined 1.7% in Q2, an improvement from a 5.6% decline in Q1.
The improvement in sales productivity is relevant because Trent has been rapidly adding stores. Revenue growth driven entirely by store expansion can be viewed differently from growth supported by stronger performance from existing stores.
Brokerage Views on Trent Stock
Brokerage opinions following the Q2 update have not been completely uniform, which is important for investors considering the Trent share price.
BofA Securities: Buy
According to Economic Times, BofA Securities recently initiated coverage on Trent with a Buy rating and a price target of ₹3,075. The brokerage cited Trent’s differentiated retail platform, growth prospects and integrated technology and supply-chain capabilities.
Goldman Sachs: Target Raised
Reuters reported that Goldman Sachs raised its target price to ₹3,010 from ₹2,960. The brokerage highlighted stronger-than-expected revenue growth and improving sales productivity.
HSBC: Bullish View
Business Today reported that HSBC assigned a Buy rating with a target price of ₹3,390. Based on the report’s reference price, that represented substantial potential upside. However, a brokerage target is an analyst estimate, not a guaranteed future market price.
Citi: More Cautious
Citi has taken a more cautious view. Goodreturns reported that Citi retained a Sell rating and a ₹2,950 target after the Q2 update.
The brokerage reportedly pointed to revenue per square foot remaining under pressure and noted that net store additions were below its expectations. This provides an important counterpoint to the positive headline revenue growth.
| Brokerage | Reported View | Target Price |
|---|---|---|
| BofA Securities | Buy | ₹3,075 |
| Goldman Sachs | Positive / target raised | ₹3,010 |
| HSBC | Buy | ₹3,390 |
| Citi | Sell | ₹2,950 |
Brokerage ratings and target prices are analyst opinions and can change without notice. They should not be treated as guaranteed outcomes.
Should You Buy Trent Shares?
The latest numbers provide several positive signals, but the Q2 business update alone does not establish that Trent shares are automatically a buy.
On the positive side, revenue growth remained strong at 23%, H1 revenue grew 21%, Zudio crossed 1,000 stores and the company continued to expand its retail network. The market also reacted positively to the improvement in sales productivity reported by analysts.
However, investors also need to consider valuation, store productivity, competition, consumer demand, margins and the eventual quarterly profit numbers. Trent operates in a highly competitive retail environment, and rapid store expansion creates both growth opportunities and execution requirements.
Another consideration is that the stock’s sharp one-day rise can increase short-term volatility. Buying after a large price move is materially different from evaluating the company’s fundamentals before the announcement.
Should Existing Investors Hold Trent?
For existing shareholders, the latest operating update provides evidence that Trent’s revenue momentum remains strong. But whether to hold depends on factors such as the investor’s purchase price, investment horizon, portfolio allocation and tolerance for volatility.
The more useful question after the Q2 update is whether Trent can sustain its growth while improving productivity across an expanding store base. The company’s forthcoming detailed financial results will provide additional information on profitability and margins.
Should Investors Sell Trent Shares?
A strong Q2 revenue number does not eliminate the risks associated with the stock. Investors whose investment thesis depends on high store productivity or attractive valuation may want to reassess those assumptions after the latest price move.
At the same time, the existence of a cautious brokerage view shows that analysts do not have a unanimous opinion on Trent’s valuation or future performance. Therefore, a decision to sell should not be based solely on the fact that the stock has reached the upper circuit.
Key Risks to Watch
- Valuation risk: A strong growth company can still deliver disappointing investment returns if its valuation becomes too demanding.
- Store productivity: Trent needs its expanding store network to generate sustainable sales and returns.
- Competition: The fashion and value-retail market includes multiple national and regional competitors.
- Urban demand: Consumer discretionary spending can fluctuate with economic conditions.
- Margin performance: Revenue growth needs to translate into healthy profitability and cash generation.
- Execution risk: Rapid expansion across hundreds of stores increases operational complexity.
What to Watch Next for Trent
The next major information point will be Trent’s detailed financial results for the quarter and half year ended September 30, 2026. Investors will be watching profit, EBITDA, margins, cash flow and other financial indicators that were not included in the provisional Q2 revenue update.
Store productivity will also remain important. The combination of revenue growth and store additions needs to be assessed alongside sales per store and same-store performance rather than revenue alone.
The festive-season performance could also provide useful information about consumer demand in the second half of FY27, although future sales cannot be assumed from current trends.
Trent Share Price: Buy, Sell or Hold?
There is no single answer that is appropriate for every investor. The latest Trent update is fundamentally positive from a revenue-growth perspective: Q2 standalone revenue increased 23% to ₹5,788 crore and the company crossed 1,000 Zudio stores.
However, the stock’s sharp market reaction has already incorporated some of that positive news into the share price. Brokerages remain divided, with BofA Securities, Goldman Sachs and HSBC taking constructive views while Citi remains cautious.
For investors evaluating Trent, the key issue is therefore not simply whether Q2 revenue was strong. It is whether the company can sustain revenue growth, improve store productivity and generate attractive profitability as its retail network expands.
